The Truth About Zodiac

It used to be that zodiac/horoscopes were only found in the TV Guide or the newspaper…and nowadays…,it’s everywhere.  It’s literally on t-shirts, sent in store emails, and even listed on your Snapchat account profile, whether you like it or not.  The zodiac has found its way into people’s everyday lives, and I think it’s time we find out the truth about zodiac.  What does the Bible have to say about it?  Should it be a part of our lives?

Just in case you don’t know, let’s define, what exactly is the Zodiac?  The zodiac is a part of astrology, and is divided into twelve astrological signs: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. To find your “sign”, all you need to know is your birthday, which tells astrologers the sign of the zodiac the sun was in when you were born.  It’s a belief in astrology that you can know your future and pre-know/learn your personality when learning your sign.  An astrological map of the planets and zodiac signs is further called a horoscope.   The word horoscope is also used to refer to a prediction of the future.  [dictionary.com]

We, as Christians, need to know what the Word says about all this, or we can let satanic things into our hearts and lives.  So, now that we understand what zodiac is…let’s jump straight to what God has to say about it!

“The actual word for astrology in the Hebrew language means, 'divining the heavens.' Divination is the act of foretelling future events, or of revealing secret knowledge, by means of signs and omens or another supernatural agency. The practice of pagan divination is prohibited by God.” [Bibleinfo.com]  I will never quote a source without backing it up with scripture, this comes from the book of Leviticus 19:26 NIV, "Do not practice divination or sorcery". 

Here it is again in Deuteronomy 18:9-12 “When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there.  Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.  Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord…”  I genuinely love how black and white it is here…because the Lord knows I need that sometimes!

Daniel is one of my favorite books in the Bible, and it just so happens that this book speaks very clearly about how God sees astrology!  King Nebuchadnezzar was the reigning King in Babylon.  He had some dreams that he desperately wanted interpreted.  He called on who he thought were the “wise men” in the region to interpret the dreams for him, “magicians, enchanters, sorcerers and astrologers”. [Dan. 2:2.]  The King asked of them to interpret his dreams, or he would have them killed. “The astrologers answered the king, ‘There is no one on earth who can do what the king asks! No king, however great and mighty, has ever asked such a thing of any magician or enchanter or astrologer. What the king asks is too difficult. No one can reveal it to the king except the gods, and they do not live among humans.”  Instead, God raised up a man of character, who loved Him and worshiped him to interpret the dreams, his name was Daniel.  Through Daniel’s life, God interpreted the King’s dream…and God’s name was made known to all of Babylon!  God showed that He alone can tell the future and that the others were not of him. 

All this Biblical proof to say, the Bible is crystal clear in what it has to say about astronomy, divination, and horoscopes.  They are not of him, and they are despised by him.  And you guys just in case you’re struggling with this…if something isn’t of God, there’s only one other it can be from…and that’s the enemy of our souls.

The world has done a good job of deceiving people into thinking there’s no harm in reading your daily horoscope, that it’s just for fun.  If you are looking to astrology, zodiac, mediums, psychics etc. to define who you are or to know your future…you’re not only looking to the wrong source, but you’re looking to a very dangerous source.  You’re opening a door for the enemy to walk right into your heart.  

Starting right now, let God tell you who HE made you to be.  If you have questions about your future or what you should or shouldn’t do, go to God first and only.  He’s generous and loving and faithful.  He wants to talk with you, and he knows you better than anyone else.

If you’ve allowed astrology/zodiac into your heart and life, the very best thing you can do is repent.  Repenting just means to ask God’s forgiveness, and then turn from the sin, never doing it again.
